Working with ACEN – African Caribbean Education Network

Our work with ACEN – African Caribbean Education Network

Our aim is to deliver a broad, balanced, and inclusive curriculum that is representative and inspiring. We expect it to be well-designed with clear outcomes and high expectations, offering active, relevant learning opportunities that involve the whole community. Our goal is for the curriculum to be creative and motivating, fostering a love of learning and curiosity, and helping to develop well-rounded individuals who are eager to learn more about the world around them.

ACEN – African Caribbean Education Network

At Betty Layward, we are proud to be a diverse and inclusive school community where every child is valued, respected, and celebrated for who they are. As part of our ongoing commitment to promoting equality, inclusion, and cultural understanding, we are delighted to be working in partnership with the African Caribbean Education Network (ACEN). ACEN is a leading organisation that supports schools in raising aspirations, celebrating identities, and enriching education through a focus on African and Caribbean heritage and culture. Through workshops, assemblies, and mentoring opportunities, ACEN is helping our pupils explore and appreciate the richness of Black history, culture, and contributions — not only during Black History Month but throughout the school year. Their work supports our efforts to ensure all children see themselves reflected in what they learn and are empowered to be confident, ambitious, and proud of who they are. Diversity is one of our school’s greatest strengths. By collaborating with organisations like ACEN, we are helping to create a more inclusive environment where everyone feels seen, heard, and inspired to succeed. Together, we are cultivating a school culture where every voice matters — and every child can thrive.
