PTFA

Welcome to The Betty Layward School PTFA!

Welcome!
The PTFA (Parents, Teachers and Friends Association) was formed when The Betty Layward Primary School first opened in 2000. On joining the school, you automatically become a member of our organisation.
Our aim is to support the children of Betty Layward by developing effective relationships between staff, parents and others associated with the school. We engage in activities and provide facilities and equipment to support the school and advance the education of the children.
Betty Layward PTFA
What is the PTFA?
We are the Betty Layward Parents, Teachers, and Friends Association. All parents, carers and
academic staff at the school are members of the PTFA. We welcome everyone to get involved as
much or as little as you can!
Why are we here?
The PTFA is vital to the success of the school. We exist for two main reasons:
1) To create a sense of community and connection amongst parents, carers, teachers, and
school governors
2) To raise funds to support the school. Providing money for school needs, enriching the
kids learning experience and enhancing school facilities for all.
The PTFA donations directly influence the experience of our own children, and hundreds of others.
Be part of the group that pays for the playground your child loves or funds the library that’s their
favourite place to be!
How do we do it?
By organising fundraising events and initiatives. They’re good fun, bring the community together,
make memories and change the school for the better.
What do we do?
Our events include:
- Autumn: Quiz Night, Second-Hand Christmas Jumper Sale, Winter Fair, Children's Christmas cards
- Spring: Jumble sale
- Summer: Hackney Half, Silent Disco, Summer Fair
- Fridays twice a term: Bake for Books cake sales run by each year group in turns
What does the money we raise do?
The funds raised support many school events, activities, and facilities. These include:
- School trips and providing new books
- Year 6 Leavers Trips / Yearbook
- Y5 Cycling
- Year 3 chess club
- Christmas crackers and end of term summer ice cream treat
- Classroom and playground equipment
How can you help?
There are lots of ways you can help the PTFA. Everyone is welcome!
1) Lend a hand: We always need helpers! Even if you can give just a few hours over the year, it
all adds up. Parent help is essential to fundraising events - to take the lead or just as an extra
pair of hands to man a stall
2) Donate directly: Via the PTFA PayPal account: http://paypal.me/blptfa
3) Benevity.org: We are registered on Benevity.org, a corporate platform for employee
donations. Check with your employer if they participate in a matching gifts program with
Benevity
4) Join the Committee
It’s easy to get involved:
- Volunteer for one of the Bake Sales or upcoming events – just an hour of your time raises
- hundreds of pounds
- Get in touch via email - bettyPTFA@gmail.com or speak to your class rep
- Come along to one of the PTFA meetings (once a term)
- Raise money as you shop!
Who are the Committee?
The PFTA Committee are a group of parents and carers of children currently attending Betty
Layward. We are all volunteers and rely on the ideas, skills, help and time of people like you to make
all of our fundraising happen. All help is welcome! Please get in touch if you have any questions or to get involved.
