About Betty Layward

The Betty Layward way…

Curious – Creative – Ambitious – Respectful – Happy

Betty Layward Primary School is very close to Clissold Park and Clissold Leisure centre; and has good transport links.   The school is named after a local resident who passed away in 1998.  Betty Layward lived in Stoke Newington High Street with her husband and her two sons.

She worked tirelessly as a school governor in a number of schools to improve outcomes for all children  and believed passionately that all children could succeed.  When she passed, a new school was being planned for Stoke Newington.  In recognition of her commitment and passion for improving the life chances of all children, the council decided to name the new school after her.

There are now approximately 430  children on roll at Betty Layward  and each class has 30 children. There are 40 places in Nursery with full time and part time  places.  The school also offers a range of extended services to parents, including a breakfast club, a range of after school activities and an after school club (Fit For Sport).

At Betty Layward we aim to create a happy, creative school where the atmosphere is conducive to learning. We believe that children learn in many different ways; so we provide opportunities for them to explore, create, research and investigate.  It’s important that they find out for themselves rather than being told.

We believe that every child should learn the skills for life long learning and be supported to develop as good citizens who contribute fully to their community. We also believe that for children to reach their full potential, we need to work in partnership with parents and carers.

Curious – Creative – Ambitious – Respectful – Happy
