Welcome to the betty layward Primary School

Betty Layward School opened in January 2000. We are a Local Education Authority (LEA) school, run by the London Borough of Hackney.

We started with 90 Nursery and Reception pupils in January 2000, and established two Year 1 classes in September 2000. There are 450 pupils in our school.

We are a two-form entry school, which means that we run two classes, with a maximum of thirty pupils in each class, for each year group. From September 2011, all Reception class pupils will start in September with no January intake. Our Nursery offers morning or afternoon sessions.

Pupils are re-organised into new classes at the end of their Reception year, so that we can ensure mixed-ability classes, with an equal gender and cultural balance. We then aim to keep classes together as they continue through the school.
