Welcome to the betty layward Primary School
Betty Layward School is a new school, which opened in January 2000. We are a Local Education Authority (LEA) school, run by the London Borough of Hackney.
We started with 90 Nursery and Reception pupils in January 2000, and established two Year 1 classes in September 2000. There are 450 pupils in our school.
We are a two-form entry school, which means that we run two classes, with a maximum of thirty pupils in each class, for each year group. Reception pupils join the school in September or January, depending on the month of their birthday.
Pupils are re-organised into new classes at the end of their Reception year, so that we can ensure mixed-ability classes, with an equal gender and cultural balance. We then aim to keep classes together as they continue through the school.
